Agashiye-The House of MG
@ Sidi Saiyed Jali, Lal Darwaja, Ahmedabad
During my recent food trail in Ahmedabad, I decided to review this legendary restaurant, serving authentic gujarati cuisine. A royal old house converted into a hotel called House of MG (not Mahatma Gandhi) and on the terrace sits this beautiful restaurant serving Gujarati food, thus Agasiye. Well this description is enough for a culture explorer to visit the place. The restaurant does give out a royal feeling. One peculiar thing is you have to pay ahead at the counter (you get a rs100 coupon for the store below). I was told the Express Thali was self service and the Deluxe was sit down.

The food is good and typical gujurati flavors: there are chatnis, chaas, pineapple drink, papad, salad, khadhi, sweet daal, chappati, khichdi, rabri, and ice cream.
The staff is cordial and helpful with suggestions. At the end of the meal: I found it a bit costly (compared to similar thalis I have eaten in Bombay and in Ahmedabad).
One visit for experiencing the ambiance is enough. Overall overhyped and over priced place. There are many other places in Ahmedabad serving better Gujarati food.
